Energy Overwatch and Beatty & Wozniak Host Webinar on Future-Proofing Methane & Climate Compliance

Energy Overwatch, in partnership with Beatty & Wozniak, hosted a focused industry webinar today on long-term regulatory risk management amid major changes to federal methane, GHG, and climate rules. The session drew strong attendance from operators, environmental professionals, and legal teams across the U.S.

Speakers included Dana A. Wood, P.E., Vice President of Environmental Compliance and Consulting with Energy Overwatch, Chris Colclasure, Shareholder with Beatty & Wozniak, and Garry Kaufman, Senior Council with Beatty & Wozniak, who provided an overview of current regulatory shifts—including NSPS OOOOb/c deadline extensions, proposed changes to Subpart W, updates to the Waste Emissions Charge, and EPA’s proposed repeal of the 2009 Endangerment Finding.

“Operators are navigating one of the most dynamic and complex regulatory periods we’ve seen,” said Wood. “Future-proofing requires practical solutions that work across administrations and reduce both emissions and compliance risk.”

Future-Proofing: Practical Strategies for Operators

The webinar emphasized actionable steps companies can implement now to stay ahead of regulatory risk as well as their benefits. Key recommendations included:

  • Designing tank systems to avoid triggering OOOOb applicability by using pressurized tanks or 40 oz tanks, locked-down thief hatches, incorporating VRUs, and monitoring tank pressure.
  • Eliminating or reducing associated gas flaring through high-pressure shut-ins, improved alarm systems, documentation of root causes, and prevention and elimination of the root causes.
  • Enhancing closed vent system and flare performance by improving monitoring and response, the addition of back pressure regulators with automation capabilities, replacing piping, conducting routine maintenance, and inspections.
  • Preparing for OOOOc by analyzing site consolidation opportunities and implementing cost-effective control technologies early.

Attendees engaged in a strong Q&A session, reflecting ongoing uncertainty around compliance timelines and legal challenges. Energy Overwatch and Beatty & Wozniak will continue to track developments and support operators with compliance planning and strategic advisory services.
