Houston, TX – April 2, 2025 — Energy Overwatch proudly announces that Dana Wood, PE, Vice President of Environmental Consulting, Compliance, and SaaS, served as a keynote speaker at this year’s Fugitive Emissions Summit Americas. Her presentation, titled “Changing Environmental Risk Management – Moving from ‘Find and Fix’ to ‘Prevent and Eliminate'”, challenged industry leaders to rethink the status quo in emissions compliance.
“Find and Fix” is No Longer Enough
Addressing a packed room of energy professionals, regulators, and innovators, Wood emphasized that the current regulatory landscape demands more than just reactionary fixes.
“With the enforcement and reputational risks companies are facing today, ‘Find and Fix’ is no longer good enough. A mindset change is needed—we must move to ‘Prevent and Eliminate’,” Wood stated.
Wood shared data from the EPA’s 2024 Enforcement and Compliance Highlights, citing over 1,850 civil cases, $1.7 billion in penalties, and more than 225 million pounds of pollution reduced or eliminated—figures that underscore the need for proactive strategies in environmental compliance.
“Data Without Context is a Pretext”
Wood urged attendees to look beyond the collection of compliance data and toward actionable insight.
“Data without context is a pretext. “ It’s not enough to collect survey or leak data—you must analyze it, understand the root cause, and design solutions that prevent the problem from recurring,” she said.
She demonstrated how Energy Overwatch applies root cause analysis, preventative maintenance, and facility redesign to reduce environmental incidents such as tank leaks, unlit flares, and spills.
Real Solutions, Real Change
Throughout the presentation, Wood outlined real-world engineering and operational modifications that prevent emissions-related failures, ranging from valve replacements to closed vent system redesigns.
She also introduced the 5 Whys method as a simple yet effective tool for identifying root causes and guiding long-term corrective actions.
